ISSUES AND IMPACTS

LEGAL ISSUES-FEDERAL

CIRM, California Institute For Regenerative Medicine, is a huge supporter of stem cell research for many different types of diseases. It is the state's funding for stem cell research. (Citation 26)

The National Institutes of Health is a the country's federal supporter for research; the US Department of Human and Health Services. On March 9, 2009, President Barack Obama issued an executive order, (EO 13505), in which was titled: Removing Barriers to Responsible Scientific Research Involving Human Stem Cells.

  • "The purpose of this order is to remove these limitations on scientific inquiry, to expand NIH support for the exploration of human stem cell research, and in so doing to enhance the contribution of America’s scientists to important new discoveries and new therapies for the benefit of humankind."

  • This revokes the presidental statement of August 9, 2001, which limited stem cell research

LEGAL ISSUES-STATE WIDE

CIRM HAS...

  • Funded awards in hopes of bringing up a new generation of scientists

  • Built facilities for carrying out cell research

  • Been a part of research (Citation 26)

This pie graph shows the funding intent for CIRM. As is shown, 11% of finances goes to training scientists for good hopes in the future, 20% for building facilities to carry out research, and 69% on following through with having research done.
